FIFTY years separates the action in Losing Louis, the next production by the
Company of Ten at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans.
Louis is caught by Tony, his six-year-old son, in bed with his mistress in
the 1950s, just as his wife is about to give birth.
Fifty years later, the family come back for Louis' funeral. Younger brother
Reggie, his wife and two high-flying children are all doing well but in contrast
Tony and his wife are struggling, not least with a daughter with Down's Syndrome.
Unsurprisingly, there is a great deal of animosity and rivalry, not to say
envy, which lead to revelations and soul-searching.
The production, which also looks at the importance of Jewish roots, combines
high drama and farce in a play which goes to the heart of family relationships.
Losing Louis, by Simon Mendes da Costa, is being performed from next Thursday,
June 11, until Saturday, June 20. Tickets are available from the box office
on 01727 867861.
