| Wit is at the Abbey Theatre Studio later this month |
A moving and challenging work by Margaret Edson, it won the Pulitzer Prize for drama after opening in New York in 1999. On the face of it the play, which is being performed in the Abbey Theatre Studio, has a gloomy subject.
It is the story of Vivian Bearing, a professor of English literature widely renowned as an expert on the 17th-century poet John Donne. She has been diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer and is being subjected to debilitating treatment.
But through the experience of her illness, she reassesses her work and life with profundity and a wry humour - at times the play is very funny as well as thought provoking and beautifully written.
There is no interval in the production which runs from Friday, March 23, until March 31 and it lasts one hour and 40 minutes. Tickets are available from the Abbey Theatre on 01727 857861.
