Translations is the next production from the Company of Ten

IT'S all Greek for members of the St Albans drama group, the Company of Ten, as they rehearse their next production.

Following the success of The Tempest, the Company of Ten is putting on Brian Friel's much-acclaimed play Translations.

It deals with the Royal Engineers making the first Ordnance Survey map of Western Ireland in 1833. To do so they change the Irish place names for the English ones and the differences in language are both fascinating and dangerous.

A whole culture and tradition is at stake and a purely administrative matter becomes deeply and memorably entwined with personal relationships.

Some of the cast are having to get their tongues round Ancient Greek for the production and have been receiving instruction in the correct pronunciation from Dr Clorinda Goodman.

The play runs from February 23 until March 3 at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans and tickets are now available from the box office on 01727 857861.
