WOULD-be Johnny Depps and Keira Knightleys are being sought for a popular Christmas show in St Albans.

They are needed to join the cast of the Company of Ten's Christmas production, The Firework-Maker's Daughter, at the Abbey Theatre.

Adapted from the novel by Philip Pullman, the story is set in Indonesia where Lila, the main character, undertakes a dangerous quest. On the way she meets a band of pirates led by Rambashi, an entrepreneurial failed chicken farmer. Rambashi and his comic cutthroats feature in several scenes throughout the play.

Director Tina Swain is looking for aspiring local talent to play Rambashi and some of the pirate crew as well as villagers and courtiers. She said: "The pirate crew could be any age and either male or female but there will be some knockabout humour and the ability to sing a little would be a great advantage."

Rehearsals are due to start soon and performances run from December 13 to 30 including weekend matinees. Anyone interested in auditioning is asked to contact Tina on 01727 847472.
