WHO else would you turn when looking for an antique camera as a vital prop for a forthcoming production than former Herts Advertiser chief photographer Tony Gregory.
That was exactly what the Company of Ten did when they were searching for the authentic camera for When We Are Married, the J.B. Priestley farce which can be seen at the Abbey Theatre in Westminster Lodge, St Albans, later this month.
Tony, who is always known as Greg, came up with a very special camera for the production - a Thornton, hand-built from brass and mahogany about 120 years ago. It belonged to his grandfather who was a portrait photographer in Derbyshire.
Greg is shown demonstrating the camera to Harry Ormanroyd, played by Mike Andrews, who is the photographer from the Yorkshire Argos in When We Are Married.
Harry likes a friendly glass as often as possible and so is frequently not sure where he is. Mayhem results when he turns up to take a Silver Wedding shot of three happy couples all married on the same day in September 1883.
When We Are Married runs from February 24 until March 4 and tickets are available from the box office on 01727 857861.
