THE DREAMY peer of Blandings Castle swaps the ramparts for the stage of the Abbey Theatre in St Albans from Friday, May 13.

That is the start of the run of Oh! Clarence, adapted from Blandings Castle and other Lord Emsworth stories by P.G. Wodehouse.

It is being performed by the Company of Ten on the main stage of the theatre until May 21.

The John Chapman adaptation introduces the Earl, as vague as ever, wanting nothing more than to potter around Blandings tending his roses and prize pig, the Empress.

His sister, Lady Constance, has other ideas and arranges a house party into which bursts Dame Daphne Winkworth whom the Earl is urged, much against his will, to marry.

He is plagued even further by his vacuous son Freddie Threepwood, clumsy lovelorn curate Rupert Bingham and his arch-enemy Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe from whom his Lordship unwittingly steals a priceless Egyptian scarab.

Tickets for Oh! Clarence can be obtained by calling the box office on 01727 857861 or going to www.abbeytheatre.org.uk
